Dr John P. Mills, CPsychol, FHEA

Director of Play Aid

Dr. John P. Mills is a British Psychological Society Chartered Psychologist and the founder of Play Aid.

Play Aid utilises Dr Mills’ expertise as a Chartered Psychologist, highly experienced educator (Dr Mills is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy), and internationally recognised researcher to lead our efforts in supporting men’s mental health.

About Dr John P. Mills

John P. Mills, PhD, CPsychol, FHEA achieved his doctorate at the University of Birmingham (UK) specialising in the psychosocial mechanisms that combine to regulate behaviour. He is the founder of Play Aid, an international non-profit organisation using the power of play to enhance men's mental health and wellbeing.

Dr Mills is an internationally recognised researcher in the field of sport and performance psychology, where he has published over 40 research outputs and presented at dozens of international conferences. He has also been a research group lead, held the roles of lecturer and senior lecturer at five UK Higher Educational Institutions, President of the Society of Transparency, Openness and Reproducibility in Kinesiology, served on the Editorial Board as an Open Science Advisor specialist to Science and Medicine in Football, and reviewed for every major journal in the fields of Sport and Exercise Psychology and Movement Science. Alongside his work with Play Aid, Dr Mills acts as a Science Advisor to one of Europe's leading Universities as well as holding a Fellowship at the University of Ulster where he is the Director of Studies for two PhD candidates.
